Akitu - Assyrian New Year 6773

The first of April marks Akitu – the Assyrian New Year also referred to as “Kha’b Nissan” (ܕܚ ܢܣܝܢܒ) which means the “first of spring.” This is the oldest recorded celebration for New Year festivities with records dating back 4,000 years ago to ancient Mesopotamia. Kha’b Nissan marks the first day of the new year as well as the first day of Spring, or Nissan. As such, the holiday is a symbol of revival to honour the re-birth of the natural world.

Join us on April 1st, 2023 to celebrate Akitu - Assyrian New Year 6773 Festival. The event will feature over 12 talented local Assyrian singers! Join us as we show appreciation for our culture, music, and dance as we celebrate our history and embrace our future.

Our celebration will also include an art gallery with local Assyrian artists, a bazaar, and raffle prizes! We encourage all our guests to wear traditional Assyrian clothes from their region. Please refer to the flyer for further details or message us for more information.
